Headset Choices.
You really don't need to over think this. Yes there are dozens of manufacturers, some with gimicky features, others just outright knock-offs of existing headsets. We have based our decision on what headsets to offer our valued customers on our own experience of what works well, is reliable, is well supported and doesn't waste our time in returns and swaps. With that in mind, there are not really many choices.
Passive. Non Noise Cancelling. Pros: Cheaper, More Robust and More Reliable. Cons: Not as comfortable and a bit more noise.
Great for aero club headsets, passengers, occasional flyers. David Clark H10-13 series is really the only choice. They are practically bullet proof and have a 5 year warranty.
Active. Or ANR Noise Cancelling. Pros: More Comfortable and Quieter. Cons: A bit pricey and more fragile.
Better for professional pilots, students, helicopters. Not so good in open cockpits. Bose is the ultimate solution for ANR. They work better than anything else on the market and are very well supported. If you fly a jet, consider the proflight 2, otherwise it's the A30.
